According to the Nutrition Twins, this smoothie is packed with powerful phenolic antioxidants: Antioxidants that react with a variety of free radicals and can help lower blood pressure.

“The effect of cherry juice is so powerful that it’s comparable to blood pressure medications,” says The Nutrition Twins. “A study found that when men with hypertension drank cherry juice, it lowered their blood pressure by 7%.

The Nutrition Twins also suggest that you can also pour a little cherry juice in your yogurt or oatmeal for added flavor and to reap the benefits of lowering blood pressure.

“You can dramatically lower your blood pressure in 12 weeks by drinking green tea,” say The Nutrition Twins. “Although it is difficult to determine the amount of tea needed, to research shows you can lower your systolic blood pressure by 2.6 mm Hg and your diastolic blood pressure by 2.2 mm Hg and it seems like three to four cups of tea a day will do the trick.”

Although that seems like a lot to consume per day, the Nutrition Twins advise that it’s easier than you think. This is because tea cups are smaller than drinking glasses and are closer in size to four to six ounces. Therefore, you would only drink about 12 to 16 ounces. They also suggest that you can also swap your Frappuccino snack for a matcha latte to get your green tea fix.

Research published in the Nutrition review shows that beet juice has a significant effect on blood pressure. It is thanks to their nitrates, which the body transforms into nitric oxide.

“Nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels and dilates them, lowering blood pressure,” explain The Nutrition Twins. “This may provide additional benefits for your workout because beet juice helps dilate blood vessels, increases blood flow to muscles during exercise, and decreases the amount of oxygen the muscles need because they are able to work more efficiently and move faster.

However, for continued benefits, the Nutrition Twins advise continuing to drink the beet juice and make it part of your routine.

“Leafy greens like kale, spinachand lettuce are high in blood pressure-regulating nutrients potassium and magnesium,” says The Nutrition Twins.

According to the Nutrition Twins, potassium helps the kidneys excrete salt, which lowers blood pressure. Leafy greens also contain nitrates. If you can sneak a cup of them in your smoothieresearch suggests you can get real benefits from it.
